Food - Tips On Properly Storing Food

Keeping your foods properly stored in the cabinet or refrigerator is something that should be taken seriously. Not only will storing your food correctly make it last longer, but it can also keep you healthier. Improperly storing foods can lead to harmful bacteria and spoilage. Let's take a look at a few helpful tips to keep your foods fresh and lasting longer.

Vegetables

Food

Keep your vegetables stored in the food crisper in your refrigerator. You can put all your vegetables in there except for tomatoes, onions, potatoes and garlic. Keep your potatoes, onions and garlic in dark place, or even in a paper bag, but not the refrigerator.

You should keep your vegetables in plastic bags to hold their moisture and nutrients. You will also put tomatoes in a plastic bag after cutting them.

Fruits

Most people think they should leave apples sitting out on the table in a fruit bowl, but the truth is, they should be stored in the refrigerator. All types of berries should also be stored in the refrigerator. One fruit that should never be put in the refrigerator though is a banana. It will immediately turn black. Not a pretty sight.

Melons, including watermelons, should be stored at regular room temperature until they become ripened. Once ripe they should then be stored in the refrigerator. The same can be said for grapes.

Other citrus type fruits can be left outside at room temperature or kept in the refrigerator. It doesn't really matter with these fruits.

Frozen Foods

When freezing leftover foods, be sure to put them in an airtight container, or Ziploc bag to maintain freshness. If you don't, you will have ice crystals form and your foods will be freezer burnt.

Meats, chicken and pork can also be put in the freezer to keep. Be sure you do not re-freeze these foods after thawing them out. You must use them after thawing, or throw them out.

Milk And Dairy Items

Naturally you will always store milk in the refrigerator, but be sure to keep an eye on the expiration date. Throw it out after the expiration date. Another good tip is to buy milk from the store with an expiration date well into the future. Look for gallon containers in the rear of the dairy shelves in the grocery store. They will have the latest expiration dates.

It is also a good idea to check expiration dates on all your dairy items at least once a week. This includes eggs also.

Meats

Always keep fish, meats, chicken and pork in the refrigerator until you prepare them for eating. You want to make sure you keep these items wrapped and away from other foods in your refrigerator to prevent bacteria and keep them from contaminating other foods.

One important tip to keep in mind is that fish should be eaten within two days of purchase.

Other Items

Keep your canned foods in a pantry that is cool and dark. This includes cereals, oils, breads and pasta.

Food storage certainly is not difficult, but it does require a little bit of attention on your part. By properly storing your foods you will keep your foods lasting longer and your family will stay healthier.

African Grey Parrots' Food

When you invite an African Grey parrot to share your home, you are taking on a long-term responsibility to provide a good diet for that parrot for 50 years or more. Many owners fail to do this, even for a few months. Believing that bird seed is enough, they purchase a large bag of mixed seed, and feed their African Grey. Seeds are cheap, so bird food companies push them.

African Grey parrots' food must not be only seed, however. Such an incomplete, imbalanced diet is likely to cause illness. Seeds are high in fat and carbohydrates, and your African Grey will probably pick out its favorite seeds, making the diet even less balanced.

Food

Most parrot experts agree that an African Grey parrots' food needs can only be met with a formula diet supplemented with a variety of other foods.

Organic Pellets

What is a formula diet for an African Grey? Organic pellets. I say "organic" pellets because many of the conventional pellets have unhealthy ingredients. Some have even been noted as containing potentially toxic ingredients.

African Grey parrots' food should never contain menadione. If the pellets you are considering for your African Grey list menadione as an ingredient, read on. The FDA requires a warning on every bag of food that contains it. That warning must read, "Person who handles needs to wear protective outfit, gloves, mask, and glasses."

Menadione may be added to give your African Grey additional vitamin K. A better option is to provide full spectrum light for your parrot. An African Grey will get vitamin K from the light, just as it would if living outdoors.

Organic pellets also let your African Grey avoid the high quantities of sugar in colored pellets. Most African Grey parrot owners care enough about the bird in which they've invested so much money, that they don't want to give it a diet that is high in sugar.

African Grey parrots' food that is based on organic pellets will be free of contaminants that might be found in other pellets. In the U.S., government regulations force companies making organic parrot food not to use pesticides or other contaminants.

In addition to a basic, formulated pellet food, African Greys need many of the same food you eat.

1. Fresh vegetables: Offer your African Grey a wide variety of vegetables, raw or cooked. Think bright, deep colors for the most nutrition. Most vegetables that offer high nutrition to you and your family will be good for your parrot as well. Cooked legumes such as beans and lentils are good. Sprouted seeds are also good. Your African Grey will love them. To avoid contaminants such as pesticides, you may want to use organic vegetables for African Grey parrots' food.

2. Fresh fruits: In the wild, African Greys eat fruit freely. The trick is to keep your parrot from filling up on its favorite food and neglecting pellets and vegetables. As with vegetables, choose bright, rich colors in fruit for the most nutrition. Also, purchase organic if possible.

3. Other supplemental foods: African Grey parrots enjoy cooked eggs and small amounts of yogurt now and then. African Greys are more prone than some parrots to calcium deficiency, so you may leave the egg shell on the hard boiled egg, if you wish. You should not need to give your parrot calcium supplements if you are using a good organic pellet food. You may give a few seeds as a treat, but go easy on them.

No, Thank You

African Grey parrots' food dishes should never contain avocado, chocolate, or rhubarb. They should not contain any human junk foods or processed meats either. It should go without saying, but your African Grey should never be given anything containing caffeine or alcohol.

Water, Please

Remember, when thinking of your African Grey's dietary needs, that it should have fresh, clean water in its cage at all times.

Helpful Tip

For healthy African Greys, be sure you clean the food and water dishes every day. If your parrot decides on an impromptu bath, wait until it is done, wash the water dish, and give it a fresh supply of water.

Harmful Effects Of Junk Food

Listed below are some important health complications caused due to sumptuous consumption of junk food.

Lack of energy:

Food

Junk foods do not contain any nutrients that are beneficial to the human body. In most cases, these foods are filled with harmful carbohydrates, fats and cholesterol that do not provide any useful energy. As a result, somebody consuming junk food has reduced level of essential nutrients thereby causing weakness in the body.

Poor Concentration:

One disadvantage of consuming junk food is that it contains high amount of oil and fat. As a result, human body finds this food difficult to digest and needs to spend high amount of blood and enzymes. When a person consumes junk food in excess, a major portion of blood in the body is diverted to the intestine. As a result, the person feels drowsy and suffers with reduced concentration.

Heart Diseases:

Junk foods have been identified as a major cause of heart diseases including myocardial infraction, cardiac arrest and atherosclerosis. This is due to the fact that junk food contains excessive amount of low-density lipoproteins and cholesterol that get deposited on the inner linings of blood vessels. This result in formation of plaques and the heart is required to put an extra effort for pumping blood through the arteries. Presence of fat in the blood also causes reduced oxygen levels. Another harmful factor present in junk foods is excess concentration of sugars and salt. Excessive concentration of sodium ions causes an increased heart blood pressure.

Liver Failure:

Even liver gets damaged due to presence of ingredients such as fat, cholesterol and salt inside the junk foods.

Diabetes:

Junk foods also cause damage to the pancreas resulting in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM).

Dog Food Allergy - What's The Best Dog Food For Dogs With Allergies?

What's the best food for dogs with allergies? Here are 6 tips for choosing the best!

1. Look for a dog food with whole foods and no by products. Many of the commercial pet foods contain animal by products. Animal by products are things like chicken feet and bones.

Food

These waste products can build up in a dogs system and compromise their digestive system. As the body tries to eliminate the waste, it gets carried out through the skin causing rashes, hot spots, foot chewing and licking.

2. Sometimes a so called "dog food allergy" is simply the result of a depressed immune system and an unbalanced diet. They may not really be sensitive to just one ingredient in the food they are eating. It may be that they just need to get on a good, quality dog food.

3. Stay away from food with corn, wheat, soy or dairy in it. Many dogs are sensitive to these ingredients. These ingredients can be very hard to digest and can cause stress on the dogs digestive system.

4. Find one that has probiotics that will help support the dogs overall immune system. Probiotics will help balance their system and aid in digestion.

5. Find a food with quality grains like barley and oatmeal. Dogs still need grains but they need the kind that are easy to digest and ones that add good nutritional support to the body.

6. Look for grape seed extract in the food. Grape seed extract is wonderful for boosting the immune system of both humans and animals.

The best defense for a "dog food allergy" is a healthy immune system.

Child Development - Infant Stage

Child development psychology classifies child development in the infancy stage into three sub stages. From birth to fifteen to twenty seconds it's the pertinent period. Until the time the baby emerges from its mother's womb separated by cutting and tying of the umbilical cord, the child is a parasite and makes no adjustments to the postnatal environment. From thirty minutes to the end of two weeks the infant is now separate, independent and individual-no longer a parasite.

Physical development:

Nourishment

The physical growth development is fast with a faster rate in function of nervous system.

Child development behaviors:

All child development theories hint out that infancy stage of child development is the shortest of all developmental periods. Infancy begins with birth and ends when it is two weeks old. It is the time that the fetus must adjust to life outside the uterine walls of the mother after approximately nine months.

i) It requires approximately two weeks to adjusting to the new environment.

ii) Infancy is a plateau in development. The rapid growth and development which took place during the prenatal period suddenly comes to stop with birth. There is a slight regression such as loss of weight, less strong and healthy than it was at the time of birth. This characteristic of plateau is due to the necessity for radical adjustments to the postnatal environment. Once the adjustments are made the infant resumes its growth and development, so no fear is needed about this characteristic.

iii) Infancy is a preview of the later growth development. It is not possible to predict exactly what the future development of the individual ll be on the basis of the development at birth. We notice only a clue of what to expect later on.

iv) The child development period in infancy stage is hazardous both physically and psychologically. Physically the infant finds it difficult in making adjustments to the new environment. Psychologically the infant suffers a little when the attitudes of significant people towards the infant radically changes.

Environment of adjustments:

The infant begins to gain child development skills and make adjustments to the new environment after birth.

i) Change in temperature requires adjustment. There is a constant temperature of 100*F in the uterine sac and it is 60 to 70*F in the hospital or at home ii) Breathing by own starts. When the umbilical cord is cut the infant must begin to breathe on its own.

iii) Sucking and swallowing is a self learning development. When the umbilical cord is cut off, the child gets nourishment by the reflexes of sucking and swallowing instead of receiving it from the mother through umbilical cord.

iv) Elimination of waste products begins. Letting out urine and stools is not a matter of adjustment

v) But some infants are seen to have trouble shooting with elimination matters.

Emotional development:

Specific and identifiable emotional changes cannot be seen at birth. Anyhow some reactions may be there as facial expressions of pleasantness and unpleasantness. These are characterized by the relaxing and tensing of the body. Whatever may be the stimulus the resultant emotion is intense and instant.

Social development:

There is nothing to tell about this behavior as it's just the starting point.

It's best suggested that the mother maintains a child development chart of everything about the infant child and for achieving the child developmental milestones.

Treating Migraines With Nutrition

Nearly ten percent of Americans are affected by migraines. Migraines typically are when the blood vessels in the brain dilate and thus cause inflammation and intra cranial pressure. They can be very painful and paralyzing. Causes of migraines may be:

1. Too much or too little sleep
2. Excessive estrogen surplus for women during menstrual cycle (over all women are more likely to have migraines than men)
3. Poor diet
4. Response to certain meditations
5. Physical trauma
6. Emotional trauma

Nutrition

Often times migraines are triggers by multiple causes. When it comes to diet, there are ways to treat migraines and it's best to plan ahead. Here are nutrients or compounds that are known to help prevent migraines:

- Ever hear the phrase metal head? No, it's not about music. Magnesium is a metal that the body builds up in the head to reinforce the cranial structure preventing the effects of head trauma. I'm just kidding. It is about music. Magnesium deals with the nerves, helping them function properly and may be one of the greatest nutrients there is to prevent migraines. It is a metal that is utilized in a large number of natural chemical reactions in the body. It generally accompanies fiber in foods and can be found in bran (oats, wheat, and rice), dried herbs, seeds (pumpkin, watermelon, etc), soy beans, molasses, many nuts, avocado, beans, broccoli, spinach, bananas, kiwi, many meats, and many fishes.

- Vitamin D is known to prevent migraines, is actually considered to be a hormone and is crucial for the health. It is manufactured in the body from cholesterol by mixing UVB (not UVA) rays from the sun or certain types of tanning booths. It's best to get 10 to 15 minutes of sun exposure a day. Additional vitamin D can be found in fish, some oatmeal's, mushrooms, soy, many kinds of cereal, milk, and can also come from supplements (vitamin D3 is the most natural kind of Vitamin D). Still, light and consistent sun or UVB exposure is being uncovered as the best and most natural way to get vitamin D and other minerals.

- Large amounts of riboflavin (Vitamin B2) have been known to prevent migraines. Sources of riboflavin include mushrooms, spinach, peppers, squash, beans, sweet potato, asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, pumpkin, mustard, chives, artichoke, turnips, tomato, cauliflower, peas, onions, eggs, liver, marmite, dried herbs and spices like paprika or chili powder, Almonds, soybeans, cheese, and fish.

- Caffeine is a drug stimulant that may be used to increase the speed effectiveness of other drugs, including aspirin. Many drugs, like aspirin, already have doses of caffeine in them for this purpose. By itself, caffeine relaxes the blood vessels, may stop inflammation, and is most commonly found of coffee, dark chocolate, and soda.

- Antioxidants include beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, Vitamins A, C, E, zinc, and selenium). Basically, antioxidants repair and prevent cellular damage caused from the body's use of free radicals. Many great benefits come from high and balanced amounts of Antioxidants most of which are found in produce like fruits and vegetables. Huge amounts of foods contain antioxidants; just a few of them are Apples, berries, grapes, onions, broccoli, grapefruit, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, nuts, squash, corn and many more. Try not to over cook many of these foods, because it may destroy the natural enzymes or if steamed remove some of the healthy nutrients.

- Feverfew comes from a Latin word meaning fever reducer. It's a plant that can be consumed directly or made into a supplement, used throughout many parts of the world. It is shown to be very effective for a large portion of people.

- Coenzyme C0Q10 is a natural substance, much like a vitamin, used by most every cell in the body for energy production. It has been shown to greatly help evade or possibly eliminate migraines. C0Q10 can definitely be supplemented and found in organ meats like the kidneys, liver, heart and other foods like beef, fish, peanuts, sardines, and soybean oil.

- Melatonin is a hormone with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics. Taking it at bed time could be a very effective treatment for Migraines. Melatonin is a supplement which can even come from feverfew

- Omega 3 essential fatty acid has a great many health benefits. It's an unsaturated "healthy" fat that can act as an anti-inflammatory. It is often made into a supplement form. Food sources of Omega 3 include flaxseed oil, fish oil, flaxseed, walnuts, sardines, and most notably salmon.

Nutrition and Hydration in the Elderly

The elderly often show less interest in eating and weight loss can become quiet noticeable. They may also stop drinking as much - especially if they have problems with incontinence. In the face of advanced dementia and/or a terminal illness, this disinterest in food and drink can become even more pronounced. Family dinners become less of a social event and more a battle of wills as children focus their energy on what is being eaten and how much is being eaten. If there is extreme weight loss, artificial nutrition or hydration may be considered.

Before considering alternative methods of nutrition and hydration there are certain questions that need to be asked:

Nutrition

  • Has there been a swallow study (Modified Barium Swallow) done to rule out a physical problem which makes swallowing difficult? Muscle strength typically decreases as we age. This decrease in muscle strength can effect the muscles involved in swallowing. Strokes or TIAs ("mini"-strokes) can affect the muscle control needed to swallow effectively.
  • Are ill-fitting dentures or poor dentition to blame for a decrease in eating? If dentures do not fit well, eating can become problematic and even painful. Chewing and eating can also be difficult if natural teeth are broken or missing.
  • Is there a fear of drinking or eating because of problems with incontinence? The elderly often have problems with incontinence and may refrain from eating or drinking if they are afraid that they may have an "accident" or not have easy access to a bathroom when needed.
  • Is depression a factor? Clinical depression can cause a lack of appetite which may result in weight loss. Depression can also cause a lack of interest in activities such as family dinners, eating out, etc.
  • Are medications to blame? Many medications can cause a lack of appetite or make food "taste funny".
  • Is dementia a factor? Elderly people with dementia may forget how to prepare food, how to feed themselves, or how to chew and swallow.
  • Is a decrease in appetite the result of a terminal illness? One of the problems encountered with terminal illness is a natural decrease in hunger and thirst as the body prepares for death. Medical professionals should be involved in helping patients and their families to understand the disease process and its impact on nutrition and swallowing.

If alternative means of nutrition and/or hydration are being considered certain questions should be considered:

  • Will alternative nutrition/hydration improve nutritional status?
  • Will alternative nutrition/hydration decrease the risk of disease or prevent disease?
  • Will alternative nutrition/hydration help to increase life expectancy?
  • Will alternative nutrition/hydration improve the quality of life?
  • Is alternative nutrition/hydration a short-term or long-term intervention?
  • What are the risks involved with alternative nutrition/hydration?
  • Are there any considerations if alternative nutrition/hydration is provided, but there is a "change of heart"?

All of these questions need to be considered very carefully before taking steps to pursue alternative means of nutrition. Professionals need to educate families on the benefits and contra-indications of tube-feedings, nutritional supplements, appetite stimulants, etc. before a decision is made. This education needs to be specific to the patient involved and take into consideration the overall medical condition of the patient.

How to Regrow Bald Spots

The issue of how to regrow bald spots on the scalps of men or women is always a concern to most people. The question of whether or not to keep hair on our heads is a personal question, but most people would say that they should at least have a chance at doing so. And this is where we need to examine therapies for regrowing hair into areas of the scalp which may have gone bald.

The first thing to know is that the medical condition is called Androgenic Alopecia. It's also known as male pattern baldness when it afflicts men. Hair loss is in a generally defined area, too. Female baldness differs from the male condition, in both patterns and definition. It's theorized that it sometimes can run in the family and that it also may have to do with the presence or absence in both sexes of certain hormones, called androgens.

Nourishment

For the most part, regrowing hair in bald spots revolves almost entirely around the use of certain chemical substances. The first line of defense is in the use of finasteride, which goes by several different trade names, the two most common being Proscar and Propecia. These two medications are known as synthetic antiandrogens. In other words, they're produced in a lab and are meant to counteract the affects of androgenic hormones which can lead to hair loss.

The most famous or well-known treatment is with minoxidil, which is actually only the second preferred line of treatment. Most people know this substance by its trade name, Rogaine. It belongs to a class of what are called vasodilators (they cause the blood vessels to open wider). They can enable better blood flow, and nourishment to the hair follicles and scalp areas, which can lead to hair regrowth. The effect, though, will only last as long as minoxidil is applied on a regular basis. Hair regrowth stops and even reverses sometime after discontinuation of the treatment.

In all, the best over-the-counter solution is Rogaine. There are also hair transplantation sessions available through specialty clinics and the like. Sometimes, many men just bow to the inevitable and shave everything off, though almost no woman considers this to be a sensible option.

Aussie Minerals

Your body is made up of minerals, which are elements. Everything in the world is made from elements. Elements are matter. That being said, every part of your body is extraordinarily engineered to be in sync with everything else in your body. When one bodily system is lacking, it causes a domino effect with the other bodily systems, and before you know it, your body is lagging. You cannot perform at your best without replacing the vitamins and minerals your body loses on a daily basis while doing life's regular activities. Bodily systems that are struggling to do what they're meant to do cause your immune system to become impaired. A weakened immune system can be improved by providing and replenishing the vital nutrients your body needs.

Aussie Minerals is a collection of minerals from the purest, untainted ocean off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Queensland is lush greenery, nourishment, healthy plant life, sunshine, and amazing animals. Their ocean contains all of the trace elements and minerals your body needs to be its best.

Nourishment

Scientists and other experts say that 90 percent of people in the U.S. are suffering from mineral imbalance and deficiency. One teaspoon a day is all you need to benefit from the 90 trace minerals and elements in this pristine formulation.

The impact of lacking nutrients that are very important to your health is something most of us are familiar with. If you experience food cravings, muscle cramps and fatigue, your body is most likely deprived of essential minerals.

In order to be easily absorbed in your body, the trace elements need to be in ionic form. The small intestine is what draws the nutrients into the body. Aussie Minerals is purposely in liquid form so that your body absorbs it with ease.

Aussie Minerals also contains over 72 ionic minerals and elements from the Rocky Mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is home to the oldest inland sea in the world. Ever since the great Ice Age, these waters have been collecting minerals and elements from the Rocky Mountains for thousands of years. Now the waters are ten times more concentrated than regular sea water, containing more than 72 ionic minerals and trace elements that we can utilize.

A healthy diet and multivitamin isn't necessarily adequate for optimum health. Because of the state of the environment in this day in age, the soil, the air, even our fruits and vegetables aren't as potent and nutrient rich as they were back in the day; as they were intended to be. Farmers pollute the soil with pesticides and other fertilizers in order to aggressively compete with other farmers by rapidly producing crops. The result of this is fruit and vegetables lacking the nourishment we look to them to provide. A trace mineral supplement can have a positive impact on the way you feel, and the way your body operates in life. The way you handle stressful situations, your energy, and vitality can all be improved when your body functions properly.

Food to Eat for Gout - The Gout Diet

A lot of people who suffer from gout, have been able to reduce their sudden sharp pains with an improvement in their diet. In this article, I will discuss the exact food to eat for gout, and give an explanation as to why certain foods in flame the symptoms of gout, while other foods lower them. Follow the advice given in this article, and you should be able to come up with a diet of food to eat for gout that will be both tasty and effective in giving you much needed relief.

Here's how it works. High concentrations of uric acid build up in the blood stream, and for crystal like formations, which are deposited in the space between your joints. This occurs when there's too much uric acid in your body. Uric acid comes from purine. Foods with too much purine will overrun your body with uric acid. The result -- pain in your joints.

Food

So what food should you put on your go to grocery list that are not high in purine?

First, you need to start with increasing the intake of fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet. Five daily servings of fruits and vegetables are required, at the very least. You can prepare these servings lightly steamed, and soups, juice or eat them raw. In general, vegetables have low sources of purine. The only vegetables you should watch for are potatoes, peas and corn. Why you shouldn't decrease your intake of these, avoid eating them more than twice a week.

Second, filter or spring water intake should be increased as well. These will help filter out the uric acid through your urine.

One of the best foods doctors have found to work almost immediately it reducing the pain of a gout attack is wild or black cherries. This is because they contain a specific substance known for lowering uric acid levels quickly. Not only should you eat them raw, you should juice them freshly and drink one to two glasses a day. Avoid purchasing over-the-counter cherry juice, because the substance which reduces uric acid is usually nonexistent due to poor filtering.

In conclusion, I have given you a list of different kinds of food to eat for gout. Before starting any new diet, you should consult your family physician or doctor. Simply follow this advice, and put more foods on your grocery lists like the ones I've described above. If you follow a diet that's low in purine, you will find the pain associated with your gout will be drastically reduced.

A Negative Calorie Food List

To make a negative calorie food list, we must be precisely clear on what we mean. There has been some confusion about this phrase. Some have thought that this kind of food contains no calories at all. This can't be right as long as all kinds of food contains at least some energy.

We're going to present you with a list of this kind of food. If you follow it, not necessarly without any other kinds of food, it will increase metabolism naturally, and the result will be weight loss - especially compared with eating a meal where these foods are not included.

Food

Now, it's time for a definition. When we say nagative calorie food, we mean foods which contain so little energy that the body actually uses more energy to digest and absorb the nutrients. So if you subtract calories you'll burn from the calories you eat, the result will be negative. Only by digesting the food you have eaten, there will be a net loss of energy or a negative energy balance. This is what must happen if you want to lose weight but with this food you don't have to do anything but eat it to accomplish that.

You can also eat protein in combination with such food. Good protein will help you control your appetite as well as increase your metabolism because the total amount of calories are not reduced too much.

Here is the list:

Vegetables

Fennel, aubergine, gourd, broccoli, leek, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, marrow, cauliflower, peppers, celery, radish, chicory, spinach, cress, tomato, cucumber, turnip.

Fruits

Apricot, mandarin orange, blackberry, melon canteloupe, blackcurrant, peaches, clementines, plums, damsons, raspberry, grapefruit. rhubarb, guava, strawberry, honeydew melon, tangerine, lemon, watermelon.

Sinus and Allergy - Three Worst Foods

For all the controversy as to whether some foods, indeed, affect a person's environmental allergies and sinus issues, there is one thing certain: Most people will respond affirmatively, when asked if their condition was improved after discontinuing the use of some specific foods.

At least, this has been the experience of many, as well as mine, who had suffered from those two ailments and tried this simple experiment for a period of several days. This "empirical approach"-by practical experimentation-remedy, although little known and not scientific, has been, in many cases, a welcome solution in the treatment of those two health issues. The results have been consistent and therefore difficult to gainsay in the real world.

Food

Three foods seem to stand out as real enemies of those suffering from environmental allergies and sinus disorders such as: Sinus pressure, PND (post-nasal-drip), chronic production of green and yellow mucus, sinusitis, etc. Those three foods are: dairy products, sugar and eggs. The list of "bad foods" is much longer, but those three, possibly, hold "the worst" preeminence.

Sugar and dairy products

Nutritional and medical science, as well as government authorities, are sounding the warning alarm about the effects of sugar in human health: Harvard University researchers, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, a bone disease expert from Tufts University are all saying, basically, the same: The average consumption of sugar in the USA is too high and this can be very detrimental to our health. Although their warnings are for the general population its connotation can add additional credibility to the negative effects of sugar for the two groups we are considering in this article: Those dealing with allergy and sinus issues.

As for dairy products, already in the late 1800's some nutrition experts were expressing that "milk produces phlegm." That far back also sugar had already been singled out as being "injurious to health," when taken in large quantities. Moreover, significant amounts of milk and sugar when taken together, it was stated, form the equivalent of alcohol in the stomach.

We must bear in mind, in balance, that not everyone reacts the same way to things put into the body, whether it be food, drug medication, an aspirin or even water. But it is good to know that when many allergy or sinus sufferers stopped using those three foods there was a remarkable improvement of her or his condition.

Eggs

Some healthful living advocates would insist that eggs can be just as detrimental, when dealing with those health issues, as sugar and dairy products are. Again, some are probably more susceptible to this food than others. Yet one can experiment with it to see whether in fact it should be placed in one's own list of "bad foods."

Conclusion

Some may be concerned about becoming undernourished if those three foods were to be significantly reduced or eliminated. The good news is, however, that because our American diet is already protein heavy it could turn out to be, in many cases, a blessing in disguise.

Having problems with allergies and sinus issues such as: pressure, headache, drainage, chronic green or yellow mucus? Try eliminating or significantly reducing those three food items and see what happens. The results could pleasantly surprise you as it did me and many others.
